Stamping-and Nibbling Machine

Nibbling (also dies) is a manufacturing process for punching and processing sheet metal workpieces from steel plates.Characteristic of this method is that usually are used, CNC controlled machines of a simple shaped tools which can cut out  complex shapes.

Pros and Cons:

A particular advantage of Nibbelns compared to laser cutting consists of the possibility of carrying out metal forming processing steps using the same processing machine. It is usual in practice sheets with elements such as (aeration) gills, pull-throughs, etc. to equip . Modern nibbling machines whose tool holder has an axis of rotation can even form thread. When tapping, the material is displaced, while the thread is created without cutting. Tapping has advantages against thread cutting:
Firstly, the thread can be strained higher, also in production process during the manufacturing are no swarfs, which can be a handicap for the following working steps.

Standard tools:

The power tools are also called Nibbler, Nibbler or rodents.
Punching a punching head

Standard features include a nibbling punch with key, simple geometric shapes, such as circular (the tool is often called circular temple), square, rectangular or oblong hole. For cutting circular openings are also curved stamp use that generate a few strokes a smooth circle.

The most frequently encountered, complex geometries in the sheet metal cut, such as D-Sub connector, or other plug connection openings are usually stamped with a special tool for this form.

Distortion-free separation of metals is the advantage of these tools. As a punch, there is a cutting tool of the punch and die. With this separation technology waste is generated, the device cut from one cutting track.

Besides the cutting of sheet metal is notching a specialty of this tools. The required pre-drillings for the interior cutouts should match the diameter of the die. Round stamp also allow tight turns, it creates crescent waste. The shape and width of a cutting trace arises from the art and size of the stamp. Thus is also measured by the material loss caused by stamping. Wave and trapezoidal sheets can be separated with a nibble, nibblers and rodents. In contrast to the scissors cutting track is free of faults. Power cable or power supply the drive motor with energy.

Special tools

Punching with a multitool

The (large) volume production, such as cabinets, also often use special tools that can cut a few strokes tool complete contours.

A form of special tool is the so called multi-tool. Here are mounted on a head several punches and can be addressed by turning (using indexing).

Machinery

Modern, numerically controlled punching-nibbling characterized by high productivity (compared to laser cutting) from lower unit costs. However, no arbitrary contours can be cut.

Combination machines

To combine the advantages of Nibbelns with those of laser cutting, the various manufacturers also combined machines which allow both metal forming operations with the punch head and the laser machining of any contours.Another type of Nibblers this combined with the technology of the guillotine, to perform the frequently occurring long straight sections can be optimized.
